The Minuellou manor
Minuello, Miguellou, Mine-Huellou, Menehuellou: six spellings in four centuries for a seigneury that built its own chapel, supplied oak to the navy and left its name on a town house in Quimper.

A seigneury, not a façade
Minuellou has no listing record and no published heritage survey: what we know comes from parish deeds, musters of the nobility and a postcard. That is the case for most Breton manors.
The manor dates from the 15th century and was altered in the 18th. Its lords built the chapel of Saint-Grégoire in the 17th and 18th centuries, and one of them, a Mahaut, “sieur de Minuello”, appears in the great east window of the parish church. To the north-east the site overlooks the chapel of Coat-an-Poudou, classified as a historic monument in 1949.
In the 17th century the seigneury passed through the female line: Claude du Clou, lady of Keroussic-Minuellou, in 1629; Marie-Anne de Muzillac, “living in her manor of Mine-Huellou”, in 1685; then Olivier Robert du Couédic, lord of Menehuellou, in 1696. In 1703, five hundred cubic feet of oak from the woods of Kergoat and Minuello were requisitioned for Concarneau: the manors of Cornouaille supplied the navy.
Around 1925 the Rosporden publisher Chalony sold it as a postcard titled “château du Minuellou”: a long dormered house in the tradition of manors remodelled in the 18th century. In Quimper, rue du Salé, a 16th-century timber-framed town house still bears the name Minuellou.
Six spellings, one seigneury
1562: “Menès-Rechellou”, in the Cornouaille muster, probably the same place. 1629: “Keroussic-Minuellou”. 1685: “Mine-Huellou”. 1696: “Menehuellou”. 1703: “Minuello”. Around 1925: “château du Minuellou”. Today: “Minuellou” on the map, “Minuello” in the land register.
To find a deed, a sale or a photograph, every one of these forms has to be searched.
Neither listed nor classified
No listing order, so no heritage architect to consult for work on the building itself, no historic-monument tax regime, and no state restoration grants either. One caveat: the classified chapel of Coat-an-Poudou is nearby. If the manor lies within its 500-metre perimeter and can be seen from it, exterior works require the opinion of the state heritage architect. Check the town’s easement plan before any project.
From the historical notes on Melgven (infobretagne.com, based on parish sources and the 1562 muster) and the Mérimée record of the chapel of Coat-an-Poudou. No data on current owners.
The hamlet, then and now
The hedged fields of the 1950s have given way to large plots, but the hamlet keeps its structure: the house and outbuildings around the courtyard, woodland to the south, open fields to the north.

Value
Town-level figures, aggregated. Ti Kaer never links a named house to a sale price.
What determines the value of a manor like this, in order: the floor area actually restored and habitable, the condition of roofs and masonry, the outbuildings and what they allow, the size and unity of the land, the privacy of the site, then the distance to the sea, twelve minutes away. Manor sales are too rare and too different from one another for a price range to mean anything: Ti Kaer does not publish one.
Questions
Is the Minuellou manor a listed historic monument?
No. It is neither listed nor classified and does not appear in the regional heritage inventory. The nearby chapel of Coat-an-Poudou has been classified since 1949.
What is a manor worth in Melgven?
Manors sell too rarely for a price per square metre to mean anything. In Melgven the median house price was €206,000 between 2021 and 2025. A manor is valued after a visit, from comparable sales in the area.
Minuellou, Minuello or Miguellou?
All three refer to the same place in Melgven. “Minuellou” is the map form, “Minuello” the land-register and 18th-century form, “Miguellou” a variant found in historical notes.
